Fishing in the Sea of Cortez
A 6.00am start to be met at the dock by Lavo, the Panga Captain that runs the boat for Patty who runs the Hotel where I am staying. We rushed off at speed to pay for for some bait (mackerel) and then get some more - sardines. There were a lot of boats around and we were told tuna were around about 45 minutes down the coast - well there were plenty there, all jumping around but we were unable to snag any. We trolled around after that and by the time we returned to the dock at 1.00pm we had caught 5 nice Dorado's, 1 sizable Stick-fish, I failed to land another Dorado and a Wahoo attacked but bit right through the bait. All in all a very active morning - great to see the Captain working all the lines - we usually had four rods out, two ready to bait as needed and two spares.
The Captain filleted the Dorado's and as I was returning to Todos Santos I was able to leave them as a gift to Patty who been so helpful at the Hotel, the Kite crew, and Graham and Dee a really nice couple I had met on sunday evening while watching the Patriots.
The Wahoo that got away?
No Marlins seen - thank goodness!
